Definitely not! I legit have no idea how they dont get fat. A lot of them smoke I suppose... And ive heard will follow up a calorific meal by not eating much for a day or three. I personally couldnt do that. Even with running, i got fat there and was only there for a week! #wortheverypound

Whats really hard there is there is basically no healthy way to eat out. So i think when they cook at home it must be a lot lighter; even a side of vegetables (if they are on the menu at all, which is rare) is dredged in butter and oil!

15km, very easy miles in 20mph/40kph winds! Ran around Pyrmont, fishmarkets and Rozelle Bay. Got blown into the railing on Anzac Bridge, ouch!! 

good run though, hips felt good, and grand just to back out there! Kept pace very easy at 8:50 or so (more like 9:50 up the hills against the wind :)

Came back and did ALL THE STRETCHING AND ROLLING. Felt very self-righteous and superior indeed.

Full blown cold. Got on the tready for some easy miles around 9:30 pace. 

sometimes its best not to run. Id barely eaten anything, could only not fall off the treadmill by running so slow that my breathing didnt agitate a coughing fit . Then i got chest pain (scary gah!!) and hopped off .

Pace around 8:40 I think. Felt very easy.

Just a note to self: feeling a little something something on my foot around where my cuboid SFx was. Not even really pain, just awareness of it. Took a day off yesterday to rest it, felt it slightly on my run today. Getting rid of the heels at work, and stretching my calves/soleus (which are very tight). Not too worried, as I was doing a lot more when I got my sfx, but just keeping an eye on it.

21km down the Great Ocean Road from Anglesea to Airey's Inlet. Started freezing and in the middle of a thunderstorm, but cleared up after 15 mins or so, so the GOR could show off its stunning views to me again. About 8:30ish pace. 

longest run in about a year! Felt good and solid and starting to feel like my aerboic capacity has returned (as though it just shows up suddenly out of nowhere... ;) but apart from feeling slight tightness in my hips, it was as though i hadnt spent all last year injured!

The fascia pain in my foot from yesterday is mostly gone. I think my frugal self just has to accept that i cant go putting 400miles on my mizunos like i used to. Stretched my calves as well and that helped a lot.

Penny, I saw your question in the discussion forum. You definitely have plenty of base in place to run a sub 90 half marathon.

I think the most useful thing to add to your regular running is sustained tempo runs. You are shooting for 6:50 pace, so I would add miles at that tempo into your workouts once or twice a week. Start out with one mile, then increase as the weeks go by.

It the most, 2-3 weeks from your race, I'd do 9 miles at your goal pace. It's a good confidence builder, and will give you plenty of time to recover.

Good luck with your assault on the 1:30 barrier.

Legs felt great, though head a little achey from a couple of glasses of red last night. Turns out Im still a massive light weight! Pork belly sliders provided some amazing fuel though :)

A double for the first time in years! Only because I didnt have time to fit all the miles in the morning. But actually I didn't mind it at all; 5 miles is so short that my legs didnt feel it, and I ran the pm on the treadmill so much lower impact. All slowish 8:40-9min/miles.

I'm thinking about doing this once a week, though; a good way to get in a couple more miles, without additional wear and tear of a longer run.

First "tempo" miles!

Ok the aim of this run wasn't really to do a workout, per se. It was (1) to test out how HM pace feels, to get an idea of how much fitness I need to build in the next ten weeks before Gold Coast HM, and (2) to ease my body into hard running.

It was this time a year ago, that I jumped from 41 to 50 miles in one week, and added 6 x 1 mile repeats at HM/10K pace. I got a SFx three days later.

SO, I wanted to be cautious and ease into the harder work. 

2 x 1 miles with 0.5 mile jog recovery. Paces were 6:49 and 6:41.

Honestly, I had a hard time dialing into that HM pace that used to feel so intuitive. These miles were faster than what that pace should feel like; felt much closer to 10K pace. This means that I should be aiming a bit slower next time to get the benefits of a LT workout, but also that I have some work to do to get into sub130 shape!

Body otherwise feels good. Will be having a cautious rest day tomorrow, to be extra careful.

So. It was forecast to rain. And it was spitting for the first 4miles or so.

Then it started really raining, so much so that I felt like I could no longer get any more wet. But you know, still doable.

Then it started really raining. And nope, there was still more of me - and most especially my shoes - that could get more wet.

It was kind of fun though - even though rain is basically the easiest of the elements to run through (if you had to choose) - you look kinda hard core running through it like that.

Alternatively you just look like an idiotic drowned rat.

This felt a lot more comfortable than last week's single miles; a lot closer to what threshold pace feels like (or from what I recall from a year ago!) It didnt feel quite as nuclear as 

I think next week I will move up to 2x2 miles, then the week after move up to doing 6 total miles at HM pace; maybe some different intervals (e.g. mile repeats etc).

Felt really good - comfortably hard, perhaps until the last 0.2, which was uphill/into the wind, and started to feel like I was losing steam (I repeated the course of the first two miles backwards, so hills/wind evened out). Was going to do 1 more mile at 10K-HM pace, but ran out of time (I felt like I could have, though). 

When I started this cycle, I honestly though sub130 was a pipe dream, but Im actually starting to think its doable. I have a lot more work to do (and definitely need to be able to run more than 4 miles at HM pace), but this was encouraging.

Nixed the tempo this week. First, it was raining so hard - it was hard enough to run! Second, increasing mileage just a tad - to 50mpw. First full tempo. Woosh! Havent been getting much sleep lately, so was going to give myself out if it felt too hard. 

3 x 2 miles at HM pace. Not an insignificant workout.

Paces were: 7:00, 6:50, 6:51, for an average pace of 6:53 min/mile. Almost entirely on target.

I thought to myself (during the first interval) that I would quit if I was >7:00, but keep going if sub-7. So 7:00... default to keep going.

Second two intervals felt quite hard towards the end. Higher than "comfortably hard"! But Im assuming the point of the workout is to finish; and thats an indicator fitness overall (rather than my subjective effort level?). Anyway, a 6:53 is almost on target. With five weeks to go, working 13-14 hour days and 6 ish hours sleep per night, that feels pretty good :)

I probably took about an additional 30 seconds or of stationary rest after each rep, but apart from that, went full ball. Needless to say, my legs are toast, and Im going to go exceptionally easy the next few days (feel like I could be erring on overtraining almost).

So I was kind of disappointed because I just looked up the times i have gotten doing this workout previously. I had done 4:09 avg pace for this workout last March (right before I got my foot SFx) and 4:07 min/km avg pace before Philly HM in September 2013.

BUT, I actually took almost double the recovery for each of those workouts. I did 3:30min recoveries (translating to about 800m / 0.5miles or so), rather than the 400m/0.25 miles (plus about 30 seconds). Im assuming that an extra 1-1.5 mins gives you a fair bit more time for the lactate to clear from your legs?

Hope so!

Is very hard also to not see the few seconds difference lying in the few extra pounds Im carrying around, but trying not to think about that!

So I lifted weights last night then tried to do  tempo this morning. LOLOLOL. My legs were like "nope. nuh uh. no thank you".
